By Word 2016 documents, including blank documents that use the Normal template, are associated with a template. If you choose the wrong template or suddenly desire to change or reassign a document’s template, follow these steps: • Open the document that needs a new template attached. • Click the File tab. • On the File screen, choose the Options command. Directory of templates - Sign in - Google Accounts. Launch Microsoft Word and create a new document. Increase the font size using the drop-down menu in the 'Font' area along the top of the window. This upper region of Word's interface is called the Ribbon. Type a title for your telephone directory, including the name of the business or organization. 222 related questions. The Word Options dialog box appears. • Choose Add-Ins from the left side of the Word Options dialog box. • Choose Templates from the Manage drop-down list. You find the Manage drop-down list near the bottom of the dialog box. • Click the Go button. The Templates and Add-ins dialog box appears. You should see which template is attached to the document, such as Normal. • Click the Attach button. Word displays the Attach Template dialog box, which looks and works like the Open dialog box. • Select the template you want to attach. The templates listed are stored on your computer, so you don’t see the full range of templates that you would find on the New screen. • Click the Open button. The template is attached to your document. • Ensure that the option Automatically Update Document Styles is selected. ![]() Updating styles means that your document’s current styles are changed to reflect those of the new template, which is probably what you want. The styles stored in that template are now available to your document, and the document is now attached to the template. Note that attaching a template doesn’t merge any text or graphics stored in that template. Only the styles (plus custom toolbar and macros) are merged into your document. You can also follow these steps to un-attach a template. Instead when you open an OfficOfficee program, you’ll see the templates provided by Office. If you want to see your custom templates on the Personal tab when you start an Office program, here’s how to do this. Fix it for me. The easy fix tool fixes all Office programs at the same time. You don’t need to specify the template location in each Office program. However, the easy fix tool doesn’t help you to set a new location. It only migrates to the Custom Officee Templates folder under My Documents. To set a new location, see the 'I'll fix it myself' section below. I’ll fix it myself • In Windows 10, copy and paste the following in the Cortana Ask me anything box, and then press Enter:%appdata% Microsoft Templates (In earlier versions of Windows, click Start > Run, and paste that in the Open box). • Copy the address that's displayed in the File Explorer address bar. • In your Office program, click File > Options > Save, and then paste the address into the Default personal templates location box. Make sure you do this for each Office program. After you’ve updated your template location, any new templates will be saved to this default location.
